RTC Rotating Art Exhibit
Featured Artist: Karen Asherah
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is pleased to host a two-month exhibit featuring the photographic art of Karen Asherah. Her work can be viewed at the RTC office between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday through October 31st excluding holidays and weekends. Our office is located at 1523 Pacific Ave., Santa Cruz.
Karen’s photography depicts equine and nature. Ms. Asherah’s artistic endeavors were encouraged at an early age by her mother, a portrait artist.
Karen attended art school at the California College of Arts and Crafts, now the California College of the Arts in the San Francisco Bay Area. From the early 1970’s through mid-1980 Karen worked in the visual merchandising and graphic arts fields before beginning a career in social work. She has always found self-expression through the visual arts but it has been in the last six to seven years that photography, in particular, has become central in Karen’s life.
While she is primarily self-taught, Karen takes workshops whenever she can and has studied with Serephina Landgrebe, Tony Stromberg, Kimerlee Curyl and Jeffery Luhn, among others. For the last several years, Karen has been selling her work through galleries, art & wine festivals, shops and coffee houses. She has also participated in California juried shows at the Santa Cruz ArtLeague, Triton Museum, Santa Clara, and Open Studios, Santa Cruz.
