Share Your Voice for Safer Roads!
The RTC is currently working on the Rural Highways Safety Plan (RHSP) for Santa Cruz County, and is seeking community input through an online survey on crash trends, types of potential safety enhancements, and areas to prioritize for more detailed safety enhancement designs.
The RHSP seeks to enhance safety for everyone, but particularly the most vulnerable users, traveling along Santa Cruz County’s six undivided rural highways: Highway 1 north of the City of Santa Cruz, Highways 9, 236, and 35, and Highways 129 and 152 outside the City of Watsonville. These rural highways serve as Main Streets for many communities and are key connectors for commuting, tourism, and freight.
In late May, a series of community workshops for Milestone 2 of the RHSP were held in South and North County. A survey is now available online at https://www.sccrtc.org/projects/streets-highways/rural-highways-safety-plan/https://www.sccrtc.org/projects/streets-highways/rural-highways-safety-plan/ for those community members who were unable to attend the in-person workshops to be able to provide their feedback on Milestone 2. Your experience and knowledge of Santa Cruz County’s rural highways is crucial to understanding the safety needs of our community.
Please take our quick survey and provide your input by July 31st. Follow this link to take the survey now in English, Spanish survey available 6/23 at same webpage: https://www.sccrtc.org/projects/streets-highways/rural-highways-safety-plan/
A few minutes of your time can go a long way in improving safety on our rural highways!
