Temporary Rail Trail Segment 7 Closure Begins October 13 for Maintenance Work

The City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with Public Works, will temporarily close a section of the Rail Trail from the California/Bay entrance to the Depot Park Trestle for essential vegetation management and trail maintenance.

The closure will begin on Monday, October 13, 2025, and will take place from Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., until October 20, 2025. During this time, trucks and chippers will be stationed along the trail, temporarily restricting public access.

Crews will clear an 8-foot buffer of overgrown vegetation along the 3,500-foot retaining wall to keep the path safe and unobstructed. Tree pruning and trail sweeping will also be completed to maintain accessibility for all users.

This maintenance keeps this popular section of the Rail Trail safe, clear, and ready for all to enjoy.

The City apologizes for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s cooperation. For questions or concerns please contact Parks and Recreation Admin at 831-420-5270.
