RTC to Consider Adoption of Final 2050 Regional Transportation Plan

The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) has released the Final 2050 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) and Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The Commission will consider adoption of both the Final RTP and EIR at its June 11, 9 a.m. meeting.

The 2050 RTP is a long-range (25 year) transportation plan for the Santa Cruz County area. The plan assesses the transportation challenges we face now and those we will face in the future. It sets policy and a vision for the transportation system and estimates the amount of funding that will be available for planned transportation projects. The plan is an essential first step in securing funding from federal, state, and local sources. The RTP is updated every four years to address new trends, issues, and priorities, and to incorporate new state and federal regulations.

The EIR provides an analysis of environmental impacts related to the implementation of the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (MTP/SCS), as well as the associated RTPs for Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. It discloses anticipated significant environmental effects for the following resource categories: aesthetics, agriculture, air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, energy, geology and soils, greenhouse gases and climate change, hazards, hydrology and water quality, land use, noise, population and housing, public services and recreation, transportation, tribal cultural resources, utilities and service systems, and wildfire.
