RTC Invites Community Members to Rural Highways Safety Plan (RHSP) Community Workshops
The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is kicking off the second round of community outreach for the Rural Highways Safety Plan (RHSP), and we need your help!
The RHSP seeks to enhance safety for everyone traveling along Santa Cruz County’s six undivided rural highways: Highway 1 north of the City of Santa Cruz, Highways 9, 236, and 35, and Highways 129 and 152 outside the City of Watsonville. These highways serve as Main Streets for many communities and are key connectors for commuting, tourism, and freight.
Since our first round of public outreach in October 2024, the project team has completed an in-depth existing conditions analysis and is now identifying collision trends, potential safety improvements, and priority corridors throughout the County.
The RTC invites community members to participate at our upcoming community workshops on May 20th or May 21st to:
- Review collision trends and safety concerns;
- Learn about potential safety enhancements; and
- Share feedback on additional factors affecting safety
Community input will help shape recommendations and ensure the RHSP reflects local priorities and lived experiences.
