Storm Damage Work Completed on New Brighton Railroad Bridge

The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) has completed storm damage work on the New Brighton Railroad Bridge over New Brighton Road along the Santa Cruz Branch Line corridor.
Construction activity began in December to repair damage that occurred from a fallen tree during the severe 2023 winter storms. Repairs were done on the bridge’s walkway and handrails which are utilized for maintenance and inspection access. Work on the walkway included the removal of broken concrete sections and installation of new concrete, and the removal and replacement of damaged rebar. Additionally, handrail posts and cables were removed and replaced at several locations along the bridge.
